    That article is spot on. I got my first Achievement Medal in the Air Force for saving someone from drowning (1986). 100 people around and no one had any idea what was going on. Lucky for Ezell Walker that I'd trained in water rescue a few years earlier; I recognized it.

    One of the biggest causes of drowning I've seen is good swimmers who overestimate just how good they are and don't take all of the circumstances into consideration.

    My youngest daughter is a lifeguard here in Brighton.
    She will always tell me of times when she has to jump in.
    A lot of times she mentions that they will have a look of panic in their eyes and drop quickly.

    Thanks for the refresher. Good information. It brought back a lot of lessons from the open water sessions when I was a search and rescue diver.
