Default New build specs and ideas

I'm in the parts gathering stage of an SPR type AR build and figured I'd list out my plans here. I have longer range stuff in other calibers platforms but realized I tend to shoot 5.56 ARs at the range more than the other stuff and since I only have 16" barreled versions, with 1-4x scopes at the high end of magnification I decided to build something a little more geared towards longer shooting. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts, experiences on parts, and opinions on the whole thing!

    So far I've decided on:
-Aero Precision M4E1 upper and 15" rail
    -Larue Stealth 18" barrel
-Fail Zero BCG (the Exo coating is supposed to be nice with suppressed shooting cleanup)
    -Larue MBT trigger
-Vortex Viper PST ii 3-15 MRAD
    -KNS anti-rotation pins
    -SDTA muzzle brake

    I'm still deciding on:
    -Lower- forged or fancy milled
    -Stock (maybe Magpul ACS-L)
    -Gas block
    -Lower parts kit
    -Buffer tube, spring and buffer

I'll probably get the receivers and rail cerakoted in a dark grey or tungsten color. I have a bit of time before I get to assemble it so I'll be endlessly researching and I'll post updates here.

I'd suggest something like a PRS stock. You'll be running an 18" barrel with a can, it sounds like. Might as well have a lot more comfort and fit.

I had a carbine stock on mine and recently went PRS and I enjoy the difference. If you want to see how it feels, I'd be happy to let you.

This is the barrel I have on mine: http://www.spikestactical.com/st-lot...e5c2a67b77cc43

Not sure if it gains much over the Larue when you figure cost, but it is pretty darn accurate for an AR.

What are you planning for a bipod?

I've been thinking of the PRS stock for a while now. I had one before and didn't like the weight with the rifle it was on but it may be just fine for this one. I'm not wild about the looks but I do like the way it works. Good spot there. If I haven't ordered it by the time I'm back I'll gladly take you up on checking yours out, thanks!

The Larue barrels are on an extended sale now so they seem pretty hard to beat for the price. I was originally looking at the WOA barrels but the sale is pulling me to Larue. Although I'm starting to wonder about the which profile I should get. I have too much time to analyze this stuff.

I have a few extra Harris bipods around that I'll use for now. I'd like a nice Atlas but I need to fondle one first before I drop that coin.

With the PRS, it is more weight, but it balanced out the rifle nicely. Before, it was front heavy. I'd rather carry another pound and have it balance well. Same thing with my helmet w/ nods. The lead counter weight on the back adds overall weight, but with the balance effect makes everything mo betta.

I have an Atlas if you would like to play with it to compare. There really is no comparison -- Atlas is very nice.

I'd love to check out your Atlas. I've been reading and it seems like the only way to go.

It's been a while since I updated this. The rifle is mostly done although I'll probably swap out the the stock for a PRS and I still need a bipod.

I ended up using a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10 scope since it was lighter. I used a regular PSA lower build kit and no KNS pins, but I did still use the Larue MBT trigger. For the lower I used a Spikes Crusader and I had Tim at DangerLee cerakote the upper/lower/handguard- he did a great job and they look perfect!

Now I just need to get it out to the range and test it out!
