Two words for that nonsense: Bull Shit.
My understanding is they're reducing the sentence for EVERYONE but the reduction is to help immigrants. 1 year in jail gets them on the deportation watch list or something so by making all these crimes 364 days in jail or less, they won't go on the immigration radar for committing these crimes.

And in response, Fed crime terms for watchlist will be dropped to 363 days.

That would make for an entertaining tit for tat between the Feds and Denver

I know that everyone looks at just illegal immigrants, but that recent EO is very broad and can have dire consequences for many. Say you're a legal immigrant with a green card. You go to renew your gree card like you've done for the past 30 years and instead of the renewal you expect, this time they say, "Hey, remember that time when you were 18 years old and you got into a fist fight with your brother, your parents didn't know what to do so they called the police and you both ended up with a DV charge? Well, instead of renewing your green card like we've been doing for decades, we're going to deport you instead." Tough shit, criminal.

Would also prevent any of these charges from making someone a "prohibiting person" in terms of legally purchasing/owning a firearm?

I think the rule is if they have been convicted of a “crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.”

I think any DV conviction or active RO gets flagged by CBI and denied.
    My Feedback
Credit TFOGGER : Liberals only want things to be "fair and just" if it benefits them.
Credit Zundfolge: The left only supports two "rights"; Buggery and Infanticide.
Credit roberth: List of things Government does best; 1. Steal your money 2. Steal your time 3. Waste the money they stole from you. 4. Waste your time making you ask permission for things you have a natural right to own. "Anyone that thinks the communists won't turn off your power for being on COAR15 is a fucking moron."

Changing the law to benefit one segment of the population is outrageous.

And? Tough shit is right. If you're here 30 years, 20 years, or even 10 years legally and you haven't worked through the prcess to become a naturalized citizen then that's on you, not the community you've enjoyed the benefits of without oweing any responsibility to. My heart fails to bleed for those folks.

Honestly Stu, if you believe the crap you've been spewing here lately I'm concerned with what's pushed you so far to the left. You've always had some left-leaning beliefs but you've really gone out there over the last 6 or so months. Frankly, I wonder if you actually believe what you've been saying or you're trying to be a ByteStryke type of provocateur.

Agreed. And that's the point of this whole thing isn't it? This isn't about public safety, it's about helping out crminal individuals who are not lawful citizens of this nation. I'd be a bit bothered by this if the target demographic was citizens, but given that's clearly not the intended group to benefit from these changes I'm displeased.
