So many things I should have bought... But I paid my bills instead!

I quit paying those a long time ago, I just throw them in the trash when they come. I've got too many hunting and fishing trips to fund.

I hear CMP is getting 100k Garands back from Korea and Turkey in and they will pick out the ones they like clean the rest and shoot them and put them up for sale soon.

I just got green lighted last night by the spousal unit to get an M1 Garand for my birthday this year. I'm trying to learn as much I can about the various receiver manufacturers. The CMP currently doesn't have any specials.

I already have .308/7.62x51 in inventory, but I think I want to keep it 'correct' and stick with the 30-06. In the current CMP Service Grade category they're selling SA/H&R rifles for $750 and IHC receiver rifles for $1080. Is having the IHC receiver worth the difference?

Any word on when those 100K Garands may show up for sale?

ETA: Were these "100K" coming from the Philippines? From what I've read of a 2015 American Rifleman article, most of the IHC receiver rifles were sent to foreign governments, so maybe the CMP IHC M1s may be from these lend/lease rifles returning to the US?

They are our rifles. Turkey was the other place they are coming back from. So expect them to never be fired and only dropped once.

I think I'm going to wait for the market to be saturated and all those guys that get bored with them to sell them off cheap. And only one BG check is needed.

The latest GCA magazine has a good article on the Garands being brought back from overseas.

I would urge any Garand owner to join the GCA. It is only $25 per year and always has great articles about the M1.

I'm getting closer and closer to sending my packet off to the CMP. A few more overtime shifts and I'll be able to afford it and still eat that week.

Looks like prices of the all grades went up slightly a couple days ago. $650 for field grade, $750 for service grade.

And I'm seeing reports that most of the recently received garands from CMP are coming from the Turkish supply. They meet the grade condition, but many of them appear to be arriving a bit dirtier than what we've typically seen from CMP. Seems to be sure for all grades.

I've also heard that most of the philippine rifles are in worse shape than the turkish rifles. But they are currently still processing the turkish rifles, so there might be a few pretty ones hiding in the philippine batch.

From someone who had gotten a field grade:
This is the dirtiest field grade I have ever received from CMP. There was so much sand and grit in every part of the rifle. Barrel cleaning is next on the list, so I can't wait to see what comes out of that.
And someone else suggested with these turkish rifles, it's probably worth it to spend the extra $100 and get service grade.

Another comment from a field grade buyer:
One last thing, I learned not to let a Turkish soldier borrow your rifle --- I am almost certain my rifle had never been cleaned once since being sent there (I have never seen so much carbon residue on a rifle before - it was completely saturating the cleaning rags and making them solid black). The fact that it apparently kept working though does prove what a sturdy design it is!

    <snip>

I think the price difference reflects the relative rarity and thus the collector value of the IHC receivers. Same is true of the Winchester receivers. The Harrington & Richardson's were the best machined and finished of all the Garand makes with the Springfield Armory a close second. It kind of defies the expectation since H&R was a maker of cheaper firearms.
