Talk of a 308 CMP special garand has my interest piqued. What organization do most members here belong to, in order to qualify to buy through the CMP?

I joined the Garand Collectors Association specifically for this purchase. One year membership was $25 and includes 4 issues of their magazine. http://thegca.org/
I'm loving my 308 garand. Got it thursday, it's been the range twice, and will be heading back tomorrow as well. Running flawlessly, I'm getting better at loading the clips. It does love to throw the brass quite far.

The Garland Collectors association is the cheapest, I believe.
If you want to own Garands, join the GCA.

CMP forum is also a good resource for learning (does not meet your club requirement for purchase). Membership is free but takes forever to get the admins to enable you for posting.

Some of the posters are a bit cranky. Don't post until you've read through the stickies and done searches to see if your question has been answered.
There are subs for M1 Carbine, bolts, etc...
Also has classifieds for parts and firearms. I've seen a lot of great deals and you get sellers who know their guns are legit rather than taking your chances with GB or gun shows.
And the CMP Forum does have buyer/seller feedback to check on previous transactions by individuals. Some buyers are known to buy and flip very soon after making their purchase direct from CMP. My purchases have been very satisfactory when also buying from fellow CMP forum members. Only thing questionable is the UNKNOWN quality when we are buying a Garand direct from the CMP. It is truly the luck of the draw but I believe buyers are usually pretty satisfied.
My experience as well.
If you don't want luck of the draw, you pay a premium on the market. I paid that premium on my first M1 but not the second. They are both Springfields, '42 and '43. One has a nice (probably older repark) deep olive finish, the other a fresh repark.
