M1 Garands?

I am wondering if we have more than just a couple of us old time Garand shooters on here?? Perhaps most of the young shooters on here don't know what a Garand is and what they were used for many years ago.

I have one, but its a 308. Even played with the idea of making it a 260 but I am sure some old fuddy duddy would have killed me.

I've got one in .308 as well... didn't have anything else in .30-06, and didn't want a new caliber (but I didn't entertain .260 conversion... yet...)

Not sure what you qualify as a "young shooter".. but my 10 year old son loves my Garand!

I have one. And a 1903A3, and a M1 Carbine. Shooting them is a lot of fun and teenage boys really get a "kick" out of shooting it.

Thanks to USMC88-93, Hoser, 68charger and wctriumph for responding to my inquiry. When I mentioned "young shooters" I meant shooters in their late teens through their mid-20's who do very litle shooting or visiting of the ranges. Parts are still somewhat available for the Garands but original parts supplies (NOS) are starting to "dry up". At least there are not many parts subject to breakage or wearing out in the Garand.

I never did get into one of the SERVICE RIFLE matches but would be kinda interesting since these rifles are so easy to handle.

I have a post-Korean War era Harrington and Richardson that I bought from the DCM/Department of the Army 35 years ago It had been re barreled and re parkerized like new when I got it.. The H&R's were the best machined and finished of all the Garand makes. I shot it in highpower matches over 2 decades, and hunted with it taking my first deer, elk and antelope. It's my truck gun. I also have a post-Korean era Springfield that was rebuilt and re parked before storage. It's a CMP select grade that I bought about 20 years ago. I always wanted a Winchester, too, but the price for good ones blew out of sight.

I reload for the Garands and get a kick out of shooting them. I keep a supply of surplus M2 Ball, AP and National Match ammo. Some of the National Match in my collection was manufactured as early as 1927. Most that I shoot up gets reloaded with Hornady Match, some with Nosler Partitions.
