Just mailed off my order form along with all the supporting documentation to CMP for one of their Special (.308) M1 Garands.
Hopefully I sent all the right stuff and I'll have a garand delivered to my door in a couple weeks.

Heads up to anyone looking, the CMP website just updating this morning with some Field Grade WRA (winchester) garands available, $830.

On the last batch of service grade WRAs, all guns had WRA receivers, but some received non-WRA barrels, and some received new CMP wood.

Also the last batch of service grade WRAs sold out in about 2 weeks. I'd suggest over-nighting your order packet to be sure it gets there in time.

Got a call early this morning from CMP processing my order. Apparently the credit card charge was denied. Called the credit card company, and the transaction was flagged as possible fraud. Got it cleared up with the cc company, and I just got notified that the charge went thru. I should have my garand by tomorrow. An order of privi partisan 7.62x51 ammo will also be arriving tomorrow from sgammo. With any luck I'll be shooting my garand wednesday or thursday.

Looks like their teasing me.... they already hit the credit card, but apparently it didn't make it out the door today (unless the status on their site just didn't update yet)

So i'm guessing it'll be here thursday.

Another update on the CMP Rifle Sales page:

    Service Grade M1 Garands, $730
M1 Garand, Luck of the draw for Springfield or Harrington & Richardson manufacturer. Orders will be filled with next available Service grade rifle.
My Special Grade will arrive tomorrow by 10:30am. Already thinking of ordering one these, but wife will surely beat me to death with the special grade if I do.

Yesterday, I drove up the Bunce School Road to a favorite spot off a side road to do a little target practice. I ran a couple hundred rounds through the AR with the new Omega at 50 yds, then the G27 at 15. Decided I couldn't go home without hugging the Garand with a few clips of M2 Ball. The fun factor skyrocketed! I'll bet the shoot meters down in City Park were pegging 100.

It finally got here.... and worth the wait! (short wait actually, but felt like it took forever) Dropped the order forms in the mail last wednesday, delivered to my door at about 9:30am this morning. CMP 308 Special. Post Korea Springfield receiver that looks brand new. New CMP wood and new criterion 308 barrel.

Field stripped it, disassembly was fairly easy. Got it greased up good, and reassembled. Closing the trigger guard latch was very difficult, which I've read is normal for new wood (hasn't compressed down yet).

Lowered the rear sight elevation completely, and then went up 10 clicks. Centered rear sight, and headed to the range. Only 25 yards for now, but first 8 shots were all pretty close.

Fired another clip offhand, group moved up and right some. No issues shooting it lefty, a couple pieces of brass went off my hat, but none to the face, and didn't get hit by the clip ejecting either.
