The CMP has put out some fine rifles, especially since they began building them with new wood and barrels. I can see Garands living hundreds, probably thousands of years in the future if citizens are able to keep them. It's on all of us to protect and pass them on, beyond whatever missions they may have to endure. A tool for the ages. Darth Vader beware.

My father in law down in texas is a disabled vet. He served in the army just after korea, and was wounded in vietnam. He fondly remembers his Garand from his training and early army days. I'm looking forward to a range trip with him and the garand, either next time he comes up here, or the wife and I drive down there.

Last time he came up he loved shooting my 1911, he really wants to get a vietnam era M1911a1. I'm keeping an eye out for one on a private sale, but if I don't find anything, I'm hoping the CMP is able to start selling off the old army ones.

Congrats on the new M1. Now you will always have one.

Damn, now I want to take mine out and warm it up! I have an awesome '43 Springfield that I bought from a member here long ago, no idea who it was or if he's even still here. But I restocked it and had all the metal parts reparked/reblued, so it looks and functions like new. A great shooter!

But I had rotator cuff surgery a month ago, and rifles are off limits for awhile.

Modified operating rod on my Garand (the little half circular cut to reduce risk of cracking).

Up to a few days ago, I had never seen/noticed a chunk of wood apparently missing on the stocks of some of the CMP furnished new wood stocks. Found out (from the CMP) that stocks like this were originally fabricated for the IHC Garands. This missing chunk is just to the immediate right of the heel of the receiver and perfectly alright - nothing is actually missing.
