While incredibly frustrating - it's someone's right to decide not to pursue a transaction. However, keep leaving feedback, and people will eventually not even bother with beginning discussions.

I definitely check feedback now before I start dealing with someone, whether to buy or sell.
This.

This has been considered. In fact, the staff began a discussion about this recently. So, do we make it permanent, or temporary? While many of us agree that it would feel good to do, we don't think it would ultimately change the members behavior if the TP ban is temporary. Can we really justify a perm TP ban or would it just come off as being "more proof of heavy handed mods"? It seems like the best course of action is either a perma ban from the site or no action by the staff and let the feedback system be our members guide in whether or not to do business with another member.

No one, including the staff, wants to have to add yet another rule to the site. In fact, we regularly look at the existing rules to see what can rules can be removed. Many of us who've been on the site for several years can remember when we had far fewer rules than we have now. Over time we've had to add more and more rules to correct illegal or inappropriate behavior. Each time it caused the staff pain to add in more crap for people to remember to stay in good graces here. We recognize the need for rules but want all of our members to feel they have freedom to express themselves. Unfortunately, sometimes we have to dictate decency and respectful behavior. Let's not look to add to the rules unless it's absolutely necessary.

I'm tracking on the member whose behavior is driving this discussion. This weekend I reviewed every post the member made since 2006 and found that while their post count is under 30 (TP posts aren't reflected in your post count), realistically of the 350+ posts this member has made I only found 5 that weren't TP related - and of all of those deals the member participated in I only saw 1 feedback post he left for another member. It disgusts the staff. This member doesn't care that we are a DISCUSSION forum with the benefit of a Trading Post instead of the other way around.

Ultimately, unless a tool like the plug-in referenced above is added we need to use the feedback system honestly every time we do a deal; first by deciding if you want to do business with the member and secondly after the deal is done to aid other members to make their decisions later. If this occurs, the situation will ultimately self correct. But, if you continue to feed the dragon, the dragon will continue to burn down your villages.
