    Yup, pretty much!

I lived in both CA and MD while in the military. Both have waiting periods and a huge array of various other laws that are just mind boggling. For example, my last stint in MD, I bought an STI 2011 gun from a guy in the Wisconson/Michigan area (he now lives in AZ). The gun had to go through an FFL, so... 30 day waiting period, 4377, AND all the MD state paperwork they require. Now, at the time, I was a Federal Agent, carried a pistol daily, shot at the range weekly and they knew me, AND had unrestricted access to over 40 machine guns.

They needed the 30 days to conduct a background check on me to ensure I wasn't a felon or mentally unstable

Worthless laws that do nothing. I could drive up Suitland Parkway into Southeast DC and pick up a silenced Mac 10 with mags and ammo in an hour. That's being a white dude, too.

What really makes me chuckle is states that have waiting periods for hand guns but not shotguns or rifles. So denying someone, with the intent to do harm, the pistol of their choice while offering them a whole array of shotguns and rifles makes sense how?

In the end all gun control schemes have one single goal, to outlaw private gun ownership. That can be their only real intent since they offer very little in the way of crime deterrence. First they get us desensitized to 'background' checks and waiting periods, then we get receptive to registration, then restrictive licensing/permitting and before you know it we're unarmed. My 2 cents.
I could not agree with mutt more...

In Iowa, hand gun regulations are left up to the individual county's Sheriff's Departments. I had no trouble getting a permit to purchase, but because of the Democrat Sheriff in my county I have virtually no chance at getting a permit to carry. If I happened to live 20 miles to the south, I would be virtually guaranteed a permit. It’s just not right...

Iowa isn't a "Shall issue" state then?

    Default Bumper sticker.

Gun control isn't about guns, it's about control.

I believe that pretty much sums it up for me.
