Default PC or just me (fireworks)

I've been reading quite a few... "please don't set off your own personal fireworks because of pets and vets". Are these people for real?! Is this what Colorado has come to in 2017? I haven't bought personal fireworks in 20+ years but this just sounds ridiculous. Maybe I'm just insensitive or I grew up in a redneck state.

Fireworks stands here on every corner. The good stuff, too, that I haven't seen in decades.

America’s doctors are warning that the use of sparklers on the Fourth of July is just too darn dangerous for your children.

To avoid the risk of injury, you should give your kids bubbles, glow sticks and pom-poms to play with this Independence Day. Those things are safer and almost just as fun.
    I have no words.

My grandmother's dog went nuts when firecrackers/fireworks went off. The noise really pained her or panicked her. We inherited the dog when my grandparents moved into an apartment and on Independence Day and New Year's Eve, we'd put her in the bathroom with the window and door closed to try to muffle the sound for her. It generally worked and we were (and still are) pro-fireworks. However, some idiots lit off firecrackers the weekend AFTER Independence Day after we'd given her a wash and my sister had tied her leash off to the deck railing to make sure she stayed put while she dried. We went off to church and came back to find the dog had jumped off the deck due to the fireworks/firecrackers (they were still setting them off when we got home). You can figure out what happened ... my sister was traumatized since she'd tied the dog off and I got to handle the mess.

My only point in this is that it IS real but a responsible pet owners can generally deal with it. What we couldn't deal with were idiots who decided it wasn't good enough to have fun on the Fourth.

The city of Fort Collins has a complete ban on all fireworks this year. Just an FYI.

Our parents gave us sparklers and told us to be careful. If we burned ourselves, it was a life lesson to be more careful and fireworks can hurt you.

Today, kids grow up in an unrealistic bubble apart from what the world is really like, hurt themselves, and parents sue everybody.

My sister in law does have a black lab mix that just freaks the hell out when she hears fireworks. The dog won't go outside to do its business and trembles at the sounds. They're playing music in the house to distract the dog.

While I acknowledge there are some sensitivities towards dogs and vets that should be accounted for in some way, the bigger risk in CO is wildfire. Many, many forest fires have been started by fireworks.

I'm out on the E Coast right now and one of our main climbing areas (Seneca Rocks, WV) is closed right now cause some idiots were launching fireworks off the summit.
