I've got a bunch of old electric RC planes. When last I flew them, they used Nicad or NiMh battery packs, and used 72mhz radios.

I'd like to upgrade the battery packs to lithium. I'm sure my old nicad/nihm cells are bad after many years of sitting. I'd think lithium would get me longer flight time, as well as less weight. But are people still flying the old 72mhz radios?

Looking at my old planes on the wall, I realized I might need to make some changes if the lithium batteries are much lighter to keep the center of gravity correct.

Still have my first RC plane, a Great Planes PT-Electric. It's been crashed once, upgraded the motor, added steerable nosewheel, and built a new wing with ailerons. Would love to get it back in the air. Back in the day, it was about 5 minutes flight time max on the largest battery I had.

I haven't got around to getting a gimbal, so for now, I just have a borrowed Mobius camera zip strapped to the top.

It will "bounce" a 10lb barbell around the driveway (getting about a foot off the ground at a time), I have no doubt it will fly around with 9lbs (but probably not for long). Dry hover is 34 mins until low batt warning.

I want to build a big flying wing (one of these: https://www.fpvmodel.com/latest-vers...wing_g632.html ), but life gets in the way. The wife seems to complain less when I build guns.

That's a BEAST!! What's your overall plan for it just imaging or agricultural spraying?? Trust me I know about life I have a giant J3 that need to get back in the air but it's not in the budget.

Same here. Been flying off and on as long as I could remember. My dad bought me out of all my RC stuff when I migrated to Colorado.
He does however have way more than he needs and has been handing down small electrics the last couple years. All I have now is a superbly X glider type and he just gave me a micro geebee I'm excited to fly ! I need to get new batts for most of my stuff.

I've always wanted to Fly a Superbee, in the sims it was always a great flyer.

I've got my sUAS but already had the airman cert. That was super easy.

Yea I just took that course to supplement my studies. I'm on charting and airspace classification now but I've done the operations and UAV side just need to cover the basic Aeronautical knowledge test.

Best recommendation for beginner crawler, and estimated costs turn key?

I've always liked Axial, I've had 2 and never had any issues. I'd say whatever your looking at check the availability of aluminum after market parts. I'd say $450-500 for a decent RTR (Ready to Run). If you go kit it's will be double but you'll have better TXRX most of the time. The biggest killer is all the stuff you have to buy to start like charger, balancer, TX/RX (if you don't go RTR), Servos, esc and kit.

No real plan for it. I wanted something just to play around with, and wife told me I couldnt BUY one. I bought parts... haha
I did go a bit overkill on it though.
