To the Old Farts here......

I finally had to get enough teeth pulled that I had to get both an upper and lower partial denture plates. I picked them up and fitted them yesterday.

My questions to the Old Farts here are:

How long did it take for you to get used to wearing partial and or full dentures?
They are bugging the S##t out of me !

And how long did it take for you to be able to talk properly again ?
My speech is slurred and distorted enough that if I get pulled over that I would be suspected of DUI.

They are partials, not complete dentures......
but if I were to take them out, I would have the "Ozark" gap in the front....

At over $2K a tooth With insurance ? And a max annual payout of $3500, I would still need another $11 K out of pocket.
Unlike most here on this forum, I have to work for a living..... Guess I should go on wellfare so could have gotten implants.

57 and counting...all of mine are still real. I was into my 40s before I realized how important good dental care and hygiene, especially flossing regularly, truly is. I'm hoping to make mine last for the duration.

Had a top partial several years ago and could never eat with it in. Have since just stopped using it at all and really don't even notice any problem. This was a top back partial and I agree that it takes a lot to get use to.

Well, I certainly qualify as one of the OLD FARTS here (going on 81) but I have only one bridge consisting of two teeth and the rest of my teeth are originals. Of course there is some gum receding here and there. Guess I am of the "long tooth" class now.

A coworker of mine recently went through cancer in his mouth. The treatments caused him to lose many of his teeth and about a year ago he had the remaining teeth pulled and went with full dentures. It's been at least a year now and he still slurs hos words and can be difficult to understand - especially since he talks so softly that it's difficult to even hear him.

As someone who was raised in the Ozarks, I can tell you I've known many with full dentures and while it takes time, you eventually get used to them and will talk clearly.
