Default Heads up on some safe humidity control

I used one of these from the Dollar Tree a month ago. I never had any rust issues or signs of moisture but after one month in the safe there was a lot more water in the container than I would have thought of.

$1.00 is a cheap way to get moisture out of the safe if you don't have a fancy set up.

    Good to know.

I haven't gotten the torch out to punch an electric hole in my new safe, but I have a golden rod sitting on top of it ready to go. The other safe has a golden rod in it, and I haven't seen any issues.

The humidity has been high the past couple of weeks, so it's a good reminder to check those systems!

I've never worried about humidity, or rust, on any of my guns since I've lived here in Colo. I suppose if a guy cools his house with a swamp cooler, maybe then a problem? I do wipe them down periodically with a thin film of oil, but that's only about once a year. Just never thought moisture was a problem.
Laws aren't "preventable" measures. IOW, more gun laws won't stop mass shootings.

400 gallons of saltwater. Office sits at 40-50% depending if A/C is running. Don't think these would last that long in putting a dent in it. Basement sump room even w/ door open paint can lids are rusting. Not sure what % in the unfinished basement where the sump is runs.

Silica Gel Desiccant. Cheap, effective, and can be recharged in the oven if it has the packaging to do so. I have a big can of it in the safe.
