The eclipse will be a field day for home burglars! Millions of people leaving and posting about it on social media.

Lots of towns in the direct path, like Sun Valley, ID, are having emergency meetings this week to plan for the onslaught; presumably this is happening elsewhere. They're warning residents to stock up on food and fuel because they know they can't handle it. Highway mayhem is assured.

I'll be rafting for a week on the Main Salmon river, far from the madding crowds, (merely 98% totality, somehow I think we'll enjoy it). [House protected but seems unlikely evil-doers frequent this forum.]

I'm at the Ramkota from the 18th through the 21st, attending Astrocon.

Yhea, a little worried about how long it'll take to get back. Might just go back roads.

As nearly 35 to 50 thousand anticipated visitors arrive in Casper, one big concern is traffic (ya think)

I'm going to try to find a spot north of Sydney and spend time a cabelas waiting for traffic to die down. I don't care what time I get back to HR.

I would rather lounge on a backroad than idle on I25

Whats really weird is be around a lot of noisy wildlife. When the eclipse occurs, they will get very quiet. Same in the Florida swamps when the Space Shuttle takes off at night. Even the crickets shut up.

Ditto, I took Tuesday off work as well, in case I don't get home until very late and/or I'm exhausted after the commute.

I'd really like to see it and may go for it.

I'm guessing the media is going to go nuts with traffic reports, gas shortages and more. Climate Change will be a probable cause.

    no bathrooms, food, fuel, etc.

ehhhh, i can do without seeing with 5 million of my closest friends. Plus everyone is going to leave afterwards right at noon and just bury I-25

i guess those small town assholes will just have to put up with it, eh? That's the price you pay for being a hick
