Default Don't know what I am doing. ACOG

Got a TrijiconACOG in trade. I am having the following issues:
The red shows in dull light room only, not day bright or lights out dark.
The crosshairs and red are very blurry, near or far.

Am I doing something wrong or what?
I've had zero experience with these.

Is it one of the new fangled battery powered ones or tritium?

    If tritium, sounds like either:

    lens out of wack
    tritium near death
    your eyes?

I'd take it somewhere w/ new ones and compare.

If the fiber optic is not cracked, broken, or covered up you should see some bright red on the reticle in daylight hours enough that some choose to tape over a portion of the fiber optic. As for night time verify the age of the optic with Trijicon, the tritium does reduce in brightness over time and needs repaired / replaced. Age of the optic would be telling on this aspect.

If you are refering specifically to the right side of reticle being blurry. See the link below If not as described below I would imagine the prism mirror is out of whack which would also need a trip to trijicon (not sure of their warranty is lifetime or specific to original purchaser.)

    From here https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/support/faq_ACOG.php

The right hand side of the crosshair is blurry. Is this normal?

Yes. The reticle pattern in the ACOG is formed by removing highly reflective metal from a prism mirror. This mirror is at about a 45-degree angle inside the gun sight. This means that the left side of the reticle is closer to the eye than the center of the reticle and the right side of the reticle is further from the eye. The result- the right side of the reticle is focused beyond infinity which can cause distortion on the right side of the reticle. The perceived distortion will be more or less depending on an individual's eyesight. The left side of the reticle is unaffected because the human eye has no difficulty focusing on a closer object. This in no way detracts from the performance of the scope. The image of the target area is not affected. Only the right hand side horizontal reticle line is blurry. This construction is required to achieve a parallax free vertical center of the scope, which allows the built in ranging on the reticle pattern.

Sounds like something is definitely wrong internally.
The reticle should be crisp and the daylight operation should be so bright you will want to cover most of the fiber optic tube to dim it down.
Nightime it should be visible, but not anywhere near as bright as daylight operation.

Hrmph. Never knew that. Thought mine was a combo of my really bad old guy astigmatism and getting a bit screwed over (there is a visible edge chip looking through the objective end) that I didn't notice when I took it in trade for cash I was owed.

Thanks for the input. I suspected it was defective, although my eyes might be part of the problem.
I have an email into Trijicon. Will see what they say.
