Buying a complete kit
I have recently acquired an S&W stripped lower. I want to put together a simple, basic rifle. I expect to use surplus ammunition. What ammunition is most likely to be available(55, 62?) and what rate of twist is most suitable?
Also, what is the best book to buy first?
Thanks all. Mark

52gr to 75gr is all I have seen loaded factory, so without re-loading you won't see much outside of that.
If your looking for mid-range to handle most any ammo I would go with a 1/9 which is a pretty common barrel.
Whatever you do, don't buy a parts kit from Sarco.

Searching the web you will find more 5.56 55 grain surplus but you need to get it when you can.
For 55 grain the usual is 1/9 twist
M&A Parts has complete mil.spec. parts mfg. by government contractors, check out their site and read all the info on their parts.
