    Pulling rangers from a hot LZ in Afghanistan. Had to have some orthoscope procedure done to pull airframe aluminum and bullet fragments from my left knee. Was also one of the times I had to fire at people.

    Afghanistan. Our COP got in contact 2-3 times a day, and we usually went out 3 times a day on top of that.

    Default CCW Close Calls / Stories

    I figure we all have some story re: CCW, it'd be cool to see them in one place.

    I'll start I suppose..

    So back in June, before I even applied for my CCW, I was at Autozone picking up a battery. I was standing in line behind two relatively "normal" Colfaxish Aurora folks in the "I need a part" line. A scruffy looking guy walks in, grabs whatever he needs, and is now the only one in the "I got my stuff, and need to pay" line. One of the Autozone employees goes over to check the scruffy dude out, and one of the guys in front of me start freaking out, about how long they've been waiting, and they "better not check him out first, or else". Now granted, the guys in front of me were in the wrong line to begin with, happens all the time, I get it.. So the employee is checking out the guy who flipped out. Meanwhile the scruffy dude has a folding knife in his right hand, flipping it open and closed repeatedly, meanwhile mean-mugging everyone in the store. My only thought was, "crap it'd be good to have a CCW right now, and I've got a gun in the car for personal protection, but... it's in the flippin' car".. If this dude starts attacking folks, all I've got is this 50lb battery.

    Anyway, the first guy left, and then the scruffy dude checked out and left. I wasn't able to get a plate #, it was too dark out, and the dude sped off. Apparently the scruffy dude was a regular, per the Autozone employee.

    Let's hear your stories folks!

    Pretty sure we have a thread for this somewhere around here (since Hbar is probably busy making holsters, I've got his back on reposts).

    I was walking home after getting a cup of coffee one morning and had to cut through an alley to get back to my apartment. A rather large person followed me and approached me about 20-30 yards into the alley. The guy got pretty close and said "give it up" and came at me. I reached back for the pistol in my belt. As soon as he saw what I was doing he ran away much faster than I'd expect a man his size could run. While I did get my hand on the grip he was gone before I even touched the pistol.

    And your encounter is not measured in any statistic but we all know it happens all the time.

    Oh I don't want the job full time, I've learned over the years if you do TOO good of a job, you may just get the job.

    My morning drive to work takes me through a state park and there's always somebody trying to drive 10 miles an hour in a 35 mile an hour zone to look at the cute deer,coyotes, and pheasants on the side of the road. On this particular morning I was already running 5 to 10 minutes late for work and the car in front of me was doing about 8 to 10 miles an hour. I checked that there was no oncoming traffic and passed him over a double yellow line. As I passed the driver leaned out his window and both the scruffy driver and his 400 lb passenger flipped me the bird and shouted some things about my Mother. I passed them and continued on my way to work until I hit a construction zone with one lane open and a solid red light with a 10 minute wait. I immediately recognized I was going to be stuck there for the next 5 to 10 minutes with the Amish speed asshole behind me. I could not pull forward or U-turn as there was a semi truck in front of me, a steady stream of traffic in the opposite lane, and a ditch to the right I could not traverse, and the tortoise just off my rear bumper. I chamber checked my Glock 19 and holstered it just as the driver of the slow- mobile got out of his car and sprinted towards my driver side door. As the driver approached I mentally made a note of the fact that he had nothing in either hand. He started screaming at me from the moment he got out of his vehicle telling me that I was going too fast and I could've killed children at the speeds I was driving, 40mph, (keep in mind this is a Tuesday morning at about 9 a.m. with no school children in sight.) His eyes were bloodshot and he wad shifting side to side as he continues to curse and shout. (Evidently he bought the bad angry pot) I firmly told him to calm down and to go back to his vehicle. He replied that I should go fuck myself. I told him once again to return to his vehicle and that he ought not to speak to people that he was not familiar with in such a manner. He of course took this in the worst of possible ways and assumed that I was trying to get all tough guy on him, it was comical almost but at the same time I was dreading having to shoot this guy. I made one more attempt to get him to return to his vehicle and he finally slowly turned around and headed back to his warm truck cab and his morbidly obese boyfriend, but only after informing me that I was lucky he wasn't going to his truck and returning with a baseball bat to beat the shit out of me. I told him that it would not be in his best self interest to do that and once he got to his vehicle hevery should stay there. Which he did thank God. About two minutes later the light changed and I was able to move forward, and pull off the road and let him get around me as I wanted his plate #, and did not want him following me to work that morning, or any other morning. I had the adrenaline shakes for about 15 minutes afterwards. Moral of the story;
    1. Obey traffic laws!
    2. ALWAYS give yourself an escape!
    3. Set your alarm early and don't be in a rush to work!
