Anyway he was woking at the channel/tower 31 jobsite. I can't remember if he was the super on that job or not, but he and another guy were having heated differences of opinions all day long. So lunch time rolls around and Dad is sitting there having his lunch when the guy that he's been at it all day with comes to sit down next to my Dad. The guy sits down, opens his lunch box and pulls out a 44 mag, puts it square between my dads eyes and pulls the hammer back. At this time one of the other guys finished with his lunch sees whats going on grabs a shovel and proceeds to sneak up behind 44 mag dude. Taking notice of this my Dad keeps the guys attention focused on him. My dad says many words were exchanged. But my Dad basically told him if he pulls the trigger "my problems will be over and yours will be just beginning". The guy lowers his weapon, gets rushed and the weapon taken from him. The proper authorities alerted and he never seen or heard from the guy again. My dad has many crazy stories of the trouble he and his 7 brothers were always into. I don't even know how he's still alive to this day.
I had something similar happen to me.

I was at a graduation party for my High School graduation. I went to HS in a podunk town in Missouri so, as you can imagine, the party was held in a barn out in the middle of nowhere. I walked a friend to his car as he was leaving. When I started walking back to the party some guy I didn't know (turns out this guy graduated 3 years earlier) calls me over to his car. When I got up to him he pulled out a .357 and put it up to the side of my head. I don't remember what sort of crap he was saying, but about a minute later I turned my head to the side of the gun as he pulled the trigger. The gun fired right next to my left ear. I had ringing in that ear for some time. Of course, the shot drew others over there and he threw the gun in his car and took off. I never did figure out what his problem was.

Ok, bring this thread alive again.

Another story: Tuesday 7/6/2010 - Taking my kids to summer camp. Stopped at the summer camp location, noticed a teenage girl in the parking area, near a car, looking at it and acting a little strange. Left my son (12) in the car while I check in the daughter to her school. Came back out and noticed the same girl in another strange area, taking pictures of the parking lot. Asked my son what he thought, he said she was taking pictures of the cars and other things.

She then proceeded to hang around the fence and gate at the school. I watched her for a few moments as I drove away.

It got to me, so I backed up and put the window down, asking her if she was dropping someone off or waiting for someone. "No". Ok do you work here? "No". "I went here, but I'm too old now." Ok, well you need to leave the premise. "Well, don't worry, I'm not going to kill anyone". She starts to walk away. Seems a little strange for you to be here. "That's what they always say..." ???? huh?

Ok, so I'm dialing LPD to have them check this suspicious subject out. So I follow her for several blocks until she stops at a local bus stop on a major route. I park and wait to see if LPD is going to show up.

Finally I flag an officer down and point her out. I tell my story, officer talks to the girl... Officer comes back and talks to me, apparently she's a "little slow" according to the officer, and she's "Afraid of me" ? Huh, I've done nothing but make minor contact and call 911 because she's talking about "not killing people" at a childrens summer camp that she has no business being around.

Anyway, all is good, I got them to contact her and make record of her being somewhere she probably shouldn't.

Ya just never know when or where you'll need to defend yourself or family.

(I was not ccw at the time, but it was reasonably accessible) Yeah yeah, I know, I should have been carrying.

So the moral of the story is to pack heat because you never know when you may need to bust a cap in a retarded teenage girls ass who doesn't appear to be a personal threat to you, your family or anyone else for that matter? Good thing you necro-bumped this thread for that public service announcement. The number of lives saved are likely countless. I mean that.

Closest I ever came to using a firearm to defend my family.

First off, BIG THANKS to the Boulder Police Department!!

I was a very hot summer night and the windows in my bedroom were wide open, save the bug screens. I live in Boulder in a split level home, right when you walk inside you either go up or down, living room, kitchen, 1 br and 1 bedroom are upstairs, 3 bedrooms, a br, my son and I are downstairs.

At the time our Lab/Pit Bull mutt was 4 and very alert and active. She started barking very loud at about 5am, what do I do? The stupid thing and say "Hush!" she barks again and this time I can hear something climbing the fence between our neighbors home, then dropping onto the ground. I peak out the window and see the silhouette of a large man coming toward my window. In about 2.2 seconds I have my Winchester 1300 in ready position with some healthy Federal Buck shot loaded. Safety is ON and my finger is NOWHERE near the trigger. I yell to him ''YOU ARE TRESPASSING ON MY PROPERTY...YOU NEED TO LEAVE NOW!!" He replies in the dialect I remember from my Bouncer days....'drunkenese' In his drunken drawl he says "I can go anywhere I fucking want to go!" and he starts to advance on my bedroom window. I said "I am calling the Police you should leave now!" I dial 911 and find myself almost repeating everything the operator asked me. I describe him as a male, 6', could be 200lbs, long hair, that's the best I could make out from his silhouette, but the sun was starting to come up and I could almost see him. The operator then asks "Does he have any weapons?" So, without thinking, I repeat "Does he have any weapons?" and he replies "MAYBE I GOT A GUN!" So I tell the operator he said he might have a gun. So now I'm behind good cover, in the doorway of my room ready to lay waste to the window if he make entry. I'm shaking really bad at this time. The sun is starting to rise and now I can see him clearly and he's had enough so he starts walking toward my window yelling. He's 1' from my window, his leg starts to go back like he's going to kick my window in. My Defender is now SAFETY OFF, my finger is on a physical reference point, and I am trained on his chest. I come to terms with my maker right at that moment and I apologize to him/her for what I'm about to do, my son is sleeping behind me, if need be I was ready defend my family.

Just at the moment of no return when he's about to kick in the window I hear "POLICE FREEZE LET ME SEE YOUR HANDS DO IT NOW!" and it repeats "LET ME SEE YOUR HANDS!" He steps back, I run upstairs and look out the windows, there were 3 BPD officers all with Firearms drawn and trained on the douchebag. They take him into custody, he's yelling and cursing at them. They ask me what I would like down with him and my reply was "whatever makes your shift easier I'll back!" that was it, they took him away and never heard about it again.

    THANKS AGAIN BOULDER POLICE!!

My story is already posted somewhere on here....

Basics: Three guys try to rob me with knives... I had gun. (no shots fired, but I did draw down) They were introduced to the police.... then got out a few days later... grrr...

When my dad was younger, he shot a home burglar. It wasn't anything special but did have a twist: Guy broke in, dad heard the noise and confronted. Guy tried to fight, dad shot in gut, then he tried to run, dad shot in leg. Cops come, end of story. No charges pressed on my dad. BUT: Turned out the robber was a friend of one of dads' soldiers... Never found out the "why" though CID did get involved.

After reading this thread yesterday, I had a dream that I shot at a guy, but missed because it was in the middle of the night and I didn't have my contacts in. In the dream I remember reminding myself to go and post the story on here.

That said... Hey don't discount what a retarded girl can do...I've seen some f'n wacked out bipolar people that get on a drug binge, seem slow and retarded one second and will try to rip your head off (not a euphemism) the next. Who knows if she has some lost-custody case in that school and is going to snap the moment she sees the kid. Psych patients can do some unbelievably unpredictable things that you never see coming. Usually it's really funny, but sometimes it's quite dangerous to themselves and anyone around them. Not saying this chick needed a piece pulled on her, but at least contacting LEO about it if the guy felt something was wrong was a good response.

Sorry we're getting off on a bit of a tangent but since we're on this little side topic I will post the story I heard quite a while ago. It takes place at Pawnee and it goes like this:

Three College age kids are out shooting and arrived in two trucks. While shooting another car pulls up somewhat close to the others but nothing to make them think too much. One of the kids heads back to town leaving the other two who continue shooting. Since the witness left the rest is just hearsay but it doesn't take a forensic expert to figure this one out. Both were found shot to death and no firearms or ammo or anything of value was found. The kid who left to go back into town had a vague description of the car/guy but said that they had half a dozen or so firearms that they brought with that were nowhere to be found. Sounds to me like the guy got there and was planning his timing for when they had unloaded their guns and were either checking targets, reloading or both to make his move.

Now, as I already stated I have NO idea if this story is accurate or not but even if it's 100% fabricated it could easily happen if you're not careful and teaches a very good lesson.

I'll not let you get back to your regularly scheduled thread of confirmed stories.

Matix and Platt, the murderers/robbers behind the "Miami FBI shoot-out" had targeted several people shooting on informal ranges out in the boondocks.

Murdered those folks and stole their weapons to use for committing additional crimes.

I've always made a point of keeping at least one magazine of "serious" ammunition loaded and on my person. And when I go shooting out in the boondocks, if armed friends aren't back at the firing line, a weapon goes down-range with me.
