I have had two times where I have been in a situation where I needed my CCW.
First one was after a long 36 hour outage at work. Worked 36 hours straight and came home groggy and warn out. For some reason my garage door and door into the house was wide open. I immediately grabbed my pistol and cleared the house. Luckily I live in a good area and nothing happened to the house while I was out. Really throws your game off when you are tired though. Figured I must have left in a panic when I got called into work and didn't take the time to close up the house.
Second one I was in line at a gas station waiting to pay and I noticed a 17-18 year old kid in baggy clothes running down the side walk from the trailer park near by and came barging into the store. He immediately came towards me and the counter where I was waiting for the clerk to come help me and I took a 45 degree step back. I immediately regretted having my CCW in the truck and started contemplating if he does something do I fight, run to truck, or comply. I did not see that he had any weapon of any kind so I initially thought fight. My quickest thought was my S&W spring assist tactical knife in my pocket. I put it in my palm and flicked the safety off. At that very second I made eye contact with him and he stepped back and went to the back of the line. I paid for my stuff and left. Nothing really happened as I watched until he left and went on his way.
Reflecting back I guess I profiled very quickly as he was coming out of a trailer park wearing baggy clothing, then as he immediately tried to cut in between me and the counter when there wasn't a gap really threw me off.
Other than that I am happy to say I have never been in a situation to even go to palm my CCW.![]()
