It really makes me happy to hear that you were able to defend your dog in such a public area and you were not treated as a criminal. I'll have to rethink my position on using lethal force against an animal.

I don't know. I'm still a little confused too with the different laws, etc.. This happened in a "dog park" and not on a common or public street. And I had a bunch of witnessess...

I'm assuming if I had been walking my dog down a public street and something like this happened, I would've caught hell and would probably be missing a gun and my dog right now...

If I shoot a cat (lynx, cougar, mountain lion, etc) while hiking, the Rangers can say good shoot as I was protecting myself. If I shoot a cat while in a neighborhood, I can be taken to jail for killing the animals because I should've contacted animal control, yadda yadda... So at this point I just consider myself lucky.

Where was the dog park located though? The few times I've been to dog parks, they were pretty well occupied by the "public" at the time. Just like if you would have shot a dog while at a regular park with a playground or something.

I want to say Horsetooth... but looking at Google maps, that seems too far south to my memory. This one was closer to Laporte, close to the Chapel Animal clinic (where we took Buddy, Dr. Soto was AMAZING) and had like a pool area for the dogs to jump in, some big boulders/trees, hiking trails outside of the fence up into the foothills... it was the nicest dog park I've ever been too. Was about 4 or 5 years ago.

    Another what if:

Attended a movie last night, theater has No weapons signs, but it's small print and hard to find with all the other "stuff" around there.

Was watching the movie when a group of 10-12 teens came in, causing a scene, some lady told them to shut up. They didn't comply and she ended up moving seats.

This continued, another fellow got up (I got up too as his backup) and he let them have it. Shut up or it's over.

They didn't comply, he went and got the manger, and I kept an eye on the punks. Manager arrived and removed the whole gang. I pointed out a few others that separated from the group to escape being ejected.

Now, had this gone bad? If they Had a knife or other weapon, are they waiting for us outside? Needless to say, kept an eye on everything on the way back to the car...

Movie was "RED", and was pretty good.

Fortunately nobody was ever in any serious danger since there was a sign posted about no weapons which I'm sure the thugs wouldn't disobey.

This. These signs mean little more to me than comedic relief and a reason to take my business else where next time (or that time if it's not too much of an inconvenience at that moment).
