I know a guy "Jack" who has his Glock 23 pressed up to the inside of a car door whenever someone approaches it just to "talk" he's a cop somewhere in the world.
Who are you to want to escape a thugs bullet? That is only a personal prejudice, ( Atlas Shrugged)

The only real time I've ever come *this* close to shooting another human being was while on ECP ASOG duty in a tower overlooking our Entry Control Point in Afghanistan. Without too many details (including the entire conversation between myself and the SOG) that I'd rather not discuss- I'm going to be honest, I knew I could do it, but I really didn't want to unless I had to, and frankly I was scared shitless... We had a water truck attempt to enter our FOB, the gate guards saw it coming and reported it as being suspicious as the gate closed for the night in 15 min. As soon as the description went out over our comms we immediately got a report that it matched a vehicle on the BOLO list for a VBIED (Vehicle Borne IED)- a water truck with a 2500 gallon water tank on it: bricks were at present being shat. The gate guards halted the truck and the driver did not have any authorization form to enter the base as a LCN service vehicle. Our SOG immediately informed me to "go red" and man the M240B machine gun in my tower. I brought the weapon up and trained it on the driver. My orders from the SSG were to "Stitch the motherfucker up" if he did anything threatening or if given the go order. One gate guard trained his weapon on the driver, while the other guard got on the radio for a interpreter. The stand off probably lasted about 4-6 minutes with my finger hovering just outside the trigger guard of my 240. The interpreter and 5 QRF soldiers arrived and commenced to detain the driver and attempt to figure out who he was. Turned out to be a false alarm and the driver had received bad instructions from his employer and lost his paperwork. He was barred from ever entering the FOB. That few minutes of being ready at the drop of a hat to put the driver down was perhaps the most intense, frightening, and sobering experience I've ever had... especially since we feared he might have God knows how many lbs of explosive in the truck that potentially could have wiped my entire 5-man ECP team out.

To this day part of me is very thankful I didn't have to fire... but another part of me- I don't know if I should feel bad or what for this- wishes I would have gotten the chance to kill an insurgent.

April 2012 had an AD or ND as most like to call it, and put a 10mm hydra shock thru my left hand. Not my best day. 4 operations, 2 plates, 16 screws and a bone graph it still works.

Besides Afghanistan (one incident- bullets shot into the FOB to little/no real effect), today up at squaw pass- heard the distinct sound of a bullet whizzing over our heads from parts unknown- probably not more than 15 feet above us...

I don't have any, but my father has been shot three times. All by his dad, on separate occasions. For some reason my grandpa enjoyed chasing my father and his siblings off the porch with his .22 revolver in hand, shooting at their feet. My dad has three .22 scars on his legs from three different occasions, just because my pa thought it was entertaining to shoot at his kids (who he didn't claim) feet. No wonder he is a hard ass!
