Looking for a dirt bike/camping area

Hey guys,
My brother is comming out from Indiana in a few weeks and is bringing his truck, camping equipment and two dirt bikes. Where would be a nice place for us to camp for a week, ride some trails, possibly do a little shooting etc. I don't mind paying to camp and/or buy passes for the dirt bikes. We just want to be legal and be left alone for a week.

you will be smack dab in the middle of hunting season, there will be no where in the state that is safe from the out of staters (texans) by then, good luck.

Try going to Taylor Park behind Buena Vista. There's enough riding up there to last you more than a week. Some of the dirt bike trails go above timberline so the views are awesome. It will be damn cold at night...think single digits for a morning low. Also there will be a few elk hunters late October.

Not worried about the temps at night. We're well prepared and are both Ex-Infantry soldiers.
Does Taylor Park have set camping areas? Would we need to have some sort of temporary permit for the bikes? These are off road only motorcross type bikes so no lights or license plates.

you will need a permit for pretty much any public land in co. they can be picked up at most m/c shops, and any state parks office.

How about Saylor Park North of Woodland Park? There are lots of jeep trails and camping sites there, along with safe places to shoot.

There are tons of potential camp sites around this area with lots of cover and water nearby, and there probably won't be too many others in the area to bother you.

Just be courteous to the hunters. if there are guys hunting in there, then leave and don't bother them. you have all year to ride and they have limited time to try to get an animal. a lot of dirt bikers seem to forget this.

make sure the location you ride is legal. There are lots of spots guys will tell you that you can ride but they are illegal to be on.

Nice area with the beaver dam. Lots of hunters though and you have to be careful where you shoot. Isn't it still illegal to target shoot in the National Forest in El Paso County? Saylor park is the corner of El Paso, Teller and Douglas counties.

We used to play paintball up there and it is a site that the Air Force Academy uses for training.
