    Default Musical Instruments

    Hello Folks,
As some of you know, I've taken a new job position to be closer to home. For the last 6 years I was building a band program in Southern Colorado that had me driving from 1.5 to 2 hours commute one way, every day. I now feel like that program is self reliant and I can step away to another adventure, so I've finished that wonderful time and now it's on the the next task. I've been hired to do the same thing here closer to home (build a band program for a public/charter school). So, I know this has absolutely nothing to do with firearms (though I DO hope to have the opportunity to start an Appleseed program here too) but I'm reaching out to all possible connections I can think of. And I think of y'all A LOT!!

If you happen to have any old un-used instruments laying around in attics, garages, etc that are in decent shape, I would love to talk to you. A couple of clarifying things:

    1. I do not know yet if it would count as a tax write off.

    2. We only need wind band instruments!!
Yes to - Piccolo, flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, french horn, trumpet/cornet, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba.
No to - strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass, electric guitar, bass guitar), electric pianos, regular pianos, drum sets, etc...

    3. As always, financial donations made directly to the school specifically designated for the band program are also welcome.

I was a late hire and this was a late decision, so there is no budget for this fiscal year. However, if you know how schools operate, band barely get the budget they would need anyways. So as much as I can do upfront is what I'm after. Yes, I'm looking into grants and all that jazz do. If you know any corporate donors, etc, there are usually some big ticket items (concert tuba, timpani, marimba, etc) that would need to be purchased as well. We are literally starting from scratch... I have 30 mismatched chairs and 25 stands, lol... which is a challenge I like. I've done it before, now time to do it again!

You guys rock, hope to shoot with you guys more now that I'm closer to home. If you have questions, please ask.

    Thanks for you time,
    BigBear

Now I have to go dig out my first clarinet. Not the greatest, but it was a good learning instrument.

So cool of you to do this. I've been into music since I can remember (playing poorly and listening) and if it wasn't for some cool cats like you when I was a kid, it wouldn't have happened.

Music is special to me, and I love sharing the knowledge. I seriously doubt I'd be alive today if it weren't for my high school music teacher.

Where should they be shipped? I've got an unused Gemeinhardt student flute... bought for my wife many years ago. She talked about playing in the school band back in highschool, I kinda thought she wanted to get a new one, so it was a xmas gift. The thought was there, but she never played it. Would be nice to know it's getting used.
