I got home from a 12 hour shift earlier and I was freaking beat. Played with my little girl for a little while, took care of the birds, got dinner going, etc. My 12 yo stepson comes in the house, grabs a book and goes outside. I think nothing of it.
A few minutes later there's something strange - quiet talking in the back yard. This is unusual with 2 kids. Usually it's screaming and yelling and the usual kid stuff. I poke my head out the back door and see this:
I hear my 12 yo boy teaching my (almost) 5 yo daughter about polygons and shit, and she's totally into it. Stuff HE's learning in 7th grade. She isn't even in kindergarten yet.
I hung back for a while just absorbing what was happening. My boy was asking her how many sides an octagon had, then told her how to figure it out, etc., etc. He asked her how many sides an triangle has and she says "three". He asks how do you know? She says, "Because it has 1, 2, 3 sides (pointing) and starts with "tri"". This went on for several shapes (she didn't get every one right, but hey....learning). Totally amazing shit to me. These are my only kids, so maybe this is old hat for some, but man.........
Anyway, sorry to go on about my kids, I'm just a proud dad right now. Proud of both of them, and I made sure that my boy knew how friggin awesome it was that he was doing this with his little sister.
