    Default Medical Training

Just completed a emergency medical course, "Direct Action Response Training" course by Dark Angel Medical.

Two day course on assessing emergency medical situations, how to apply tourniquets, and other medical aid.

Highly recommend taking a course beyond basic CPR. This stuff saves lives. Well worth the time and money.

I'm sure there are other courses and trainers teaching the same information, this is my experience with this course.

Do they train using a RATS, or a CATS? Just curious. I have no opinion on the matter but have heard there is some debate on which is better.

Per the instructor, there are two approved TQs, the CAT and the SOFTT-W. A third option is a SWAT-T, a stretch tuck and wrap rubber-band type.

They didn't push one over the other, but the easiest (for me) to use was the CAT. He also pointed out there are a lot of counterfeit CAT TQs on the market.

I've used all of the above mentioned tourniquiets and believe the SOFTT is the most useful in shutting of circulation from it's spread, yet the rats is the easiest to apply. I carry both. The rats folds up so small and is the easiest to secure in mass quantities in pockets, packs, etc.

I second this motion. My wife and I were present at this class and think back on the content often. It provided very good information and products to know.
