employer background checks?

I may be looking for a job soon so i was wondering if anyone has seen how or if a CCW shows up on a standard background check.
I don't have my CCW yet but have taken the class. (worth it even it i don't decide to get the permit). If it would impact the opportunity of getting a job I can wait. I don't really plan on carrying anyway, just wanted to get the permit in case i change my mind.

That would thoroughly bother me if you were denied because you were a CCW permit holder.

Well if it does show up, it doesn't affect .gov jobs

It shouldn't show up on a standard, job-related background check that isn't run by a LE organization.

The CBI database is "supposed" to be accessible by LE organizations only.

From the County Sheriff's of Colorado website:



Each Sheriff shall maintain a list of permit holders. Information may be shared with another criminal justice agency upon request by that agency for law enforcement purposes or for the purpose of determining the validity of the permit.

Permit holders may be entered into a CCIC database. This database is searchable by name and only available to law enforcement personnel. This file has no criminal implications but will identify a permit holder who comes in contact with a law enforcement agency to facilitate notification of the issuing Sheriff in the event of any misconduct or concerns regarding the permit holder.

no it does not. i have a ccw (15yrs) and 4 tax stamps. none of them have any bearing on a BG job check.
. the only ones who see what if any ccw/fed items you posess is the investigator doing the BG check. A job looks for and felony's, violent misdemeanors, DUI's (for some jobs) and your credit rating.

I've had a background check for a non LE/.gov job and my Colorado CCW did not show up.

Yes, it does. If your permit status has been reported to the CBI by the issuing sheriff and if your information has been entered into the CBI permit holder database. Sheriff's are not required to report lists of names to CBI though most do.

Last time I saw an entry (granted that was 6 or 7 years ago), it looked similar to this:

***CCIC Person of Interest*** Issued concealed handgun permit Jefferson County***

Thanks for the 411. That was my understanding, but I still had a hard time believing that law-abiding people were being described as persons of interest...

Thanks all for your input. I'm more concerned about the employer check than LE. (although i dont like the idea of being a person of interest)
I try to stay out of trouble as much as possible.
I guess its time to jump through the hoops for denver county!
