Default Need some anecdotal evidence regarding Geico.

Thinging of switching insurance companies. See to be about 1/2 as much for the same coverages. But something feels off. There may be a few promotional or introductory discounts, but I’m mostly looking for any pros and cons to them.

We've had them for auto ins for years. Best price by far for excellent coverage. And we don't even have homeowners with them because they don't cover homes here.

Got hit by a Geico insured once.
Response was fair, with the exceptions being:
They attempted to reschedule my rental pickup, during a blizzard, when I could not fully shut the door of my car. It sucks driving ~40 miles with it snowing on the side of your face. I yelled, I got my rental that day.
They bounced a check on me. I told them I would pickup the check from the local office due to mail theft at my apartment. I picked up the check and deposited it in the parking lot using my cell. It was promptly canceled by Geico, with no call or notice to me. They said it was a duplicate because they mailed one. I never got mail. I yelled, and took off work early to go pickup another. It cleared.

They wouldn't cover my husband when he was stationed overseas. You know, GEICO. Government Employee Insurance Company.

Friends of ours used GEICO and said their communication was terrible when they were trying to process a claim; they kept getting bounced between several people who clearly didn't write anything down.

I have had Geico for about 10 years. We love it. A car, truck and a travel trailer.

I have had one increase in that time (just this year. They told me because medical stuff has gone up. I think it's really because of the hail.) I started a thread here to rant about it.

I have never been hit by someone but have hit someone else.

They paid off my totalled (and still financed car) with money to spare. My rate didn't go up afterwards. They paid the medical bills (VERY minor treatment for something a couple weeks later) for the person I hit and paid for their repairs seemingly without question. Case was closed within 30 days ish if I recall correctly.

The claims process was super easy. Lots of online tools and I found it easy to speak on the phone with the person assigned to my claim. They claim did change hands a couple times, but they were always easy to call.

When I had them they were horrible. Communication was awful. I called to just ask them a question about my coverage. After hearing my question they automatically filed a claim, I didn't even have an incident they just decided to file a claim for X because I asked if I was covered for X. When I called to ask why I had a claim I was told "don't worry it'll just be recorded as a not at fault accident". My next bill was then higher than the last. Called to ask why and they told me it was because I had a claim for an accident. They refused to correct the issue, I canceled my policy and got State Farm that day.

Do check out Amica. They're constantly rated as one of the best customer service companies. Had them for years, they handled claims like they couldn't wait to throw money at me every single time. Never a hassle at all. They might not be the absolute cheapest, but do you really want the cheapest when something happens?

I’ve had Geico for years on my car, truck, and two motorcycles. I’ve never had a problem with them.
My claim adjuster communicated quickly and well when I needed her.
I have no reason not to recommend them.
