Default Funeral of Roman Belasco (US Army Ret.) -- 30 Sep, 1100-1400, Fountain

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KKTV) - Help make certain the widow of a Vietnam War Army veteran has nothing to worry about when it comes to honoring her late husband in Fountain this Saturday.

The surviving wife of U.S. Army retiree Roman Belasco and her neighbor are worried no one in the community will come and honor Roman's memory at his funeral this weekend. The two asked the Veterans of Foreign Wars to help with Veterans Affairs benefits to help get the word out about the service, inviting everyone to thank Belasco as he's laid to rest.

The funeral service is being held Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at 6685 Southmoor Drive, the American Legion Post 38. The Veterans of Foreign Wars organization said in a release, "This is a perfect time in American history to show community support for veterans with greater attendance than hoped."

Roman passed away without warning at his home on Sept. 2. He and his wife were married for 43 years. The funeral includes representatives from the Pikes Peak area veteran community, veteran service organizations, and civilian organizations who have produced donations from local and national companies, as well direct monetary donations toward the event cost.

Well, tons of people showed up. Couldn't even get in the actual room. Line out the door. Stayed with my family in the parking lot til conclusion of the funeral. Somehow ended up a few yards from the gentleman in charge of the gun salute. Scared the toddler when he started the volleys.

A lot of military members in uniform. Saw folks from Private to CSM, Cadets to at least one LTC. Patriot Guard Riders. American Legion Riders.

I'm glad to hear that many people showed up to celebrate his life, and console one another about his passing and showing his spouse that many people cared about their family and his service to our country.

    That is really cool.
