My 2014 Silverado has factory remote start, it turns on the heat or ac, the heated seats, and the rear window defroster. I can start it with my remote within a reasonable distance, or from my cellphone from anywhere. I'll never buy another truck without it!

Only drawback is it only runs 10 minutes, and I can only restart it once after that for another 10 minute run. If that could be changed it would be perfect! Since I work at night, it's awesome to go out to a truck that's warmed up with the ice melted off the windshield.

No experience with any aftermarket stuff though.

10 minutes is normal. I think 15 minutes would be perfect.

I leave a small ceramic heater in the car overnight, set to around 50-60 degrees. Yes, it runs all night, but the car is warm and toasty in the AM, and there's no frost or snow on the windows. It's my only option for a company car that I can't make alterations to. It has been a life changing experience. Now getting up in the AM is the worst part of the AM, instead of that iceberg to deal with.

When I went shopping for a new truck 18 months ago, I made sure I bought one that fit in the garage. (JUST fits, in fact).

My Ford has settings for 5, 10 or 15 mins.

That's great that they were able to integrate it into your existing system. I may look into that for my Jeep.

I'll have to check my owners manual. Have the same vehicle but just kicks on the heat (never used it when AC was needed). Must be configurable.

Depending on the year of the vehicle, most newer vehicles have remote start but just need to be activated.

Chrsyler and GM are among the easiest because they are normally pre-wired for remote start. After owning two vehicles with it, I will never not have it again.

This may be worth some research. Newer Fords are often the same way. For example, I added navigation to mine for the cost of a blank microSD card.
