    Default Friends/family buying sub-par guns

Why do friends/family buy crap guns (Taurus semiauto pistol) from big box stores for retail prices without at least talking to me? "You know I could have gotten you a Glock and ammo for less money than you spent on that Taurus?"

    Oh well, life goes on.

Probably embarrassed to get your opinion on the Taurus because it’s the best gun that they can afford. Too often with first time buyers it’s the cost that’s the deciding factor. It’s a shame.

No idea. I think a lot if it is that some people don't know what they don't know and don't know where to look for research (or what to look for). They go to an LGS thinking that's the only place you can buy a gun and they assume that the person behind the counter knows what they are talking about and has the buyer's best interests at heart--which isn't always the case. Until I got much more into firearms and hooked up with a few gun-related forums/threads on various sites, I didn't know much. Gradually learned about what to look for, discovered online firearms/ammo/accessory purchasing, etc.

But you would think that if someone knew that you knew about the subject . . . that they might seek out advice.

I know why. They don't really like you and therefore could care less what you think.

People also don't understand that guns are like inkjet printers. It's very likely you'll spend more on consumables than you will on the device itself, unless you buy on the really high-end. Whether you buy a $300 or $600 dollar pistol, you'll easily put more than that through it in ammo. Get a firearm that works for you, is reliable, and will last.

You forget that the type of purchaser you are talking about might, a very remote might, put a full box to two boxes of ammo through said firearm the entire time they own it......
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and it stinks more than mine.

True, particularly if they have no desire to verify the pistol's reliability or become proficient with it. Some folks seem to be comforted to just have one, like it's a talisman to prevent bad things happening to them.

Well.. It's better than them asking you first and then still buying shit.. I've gone through that scenario more than a few times, I've just learned not to say anything, why should I care.
