Find a good company to align yourself with, learn the trade & you'll never be searching for work again. I got on with an employee-owned company thanks to a buddy & it's a great environment to work at (so far) & the total compensation package is fantastic. It was a good enough opportunity that I gave up a cush job in sales management with a senior role in the company, take-home company car, expense account & insanely flexible schedule. I'm low man on the totem pole who has mountains to learn & I couldn't be happier.
I forgot to add the important portion of your criteria as it applies to my new gig: my new job is M-F 8:00-5:00 if I want it to be. Gone are the days where boss man walks into my office at 11:00am & says "We have to be in (Pueblo, Scottsbluff, etc.) so let's go!" and all of my other plans for the day/night are screwed up. Even though I was able to take entire mornings or afternoons off with my other job it was rare I could plan for it & actually utilize that time for something I wanted/needed to do since it was largely last minute. Now, I can actually count down the time to 5:00 & know that I'm done 100% at that time. Like mentally I can check out too which is huge for me. The new job has flex hours too so if I want to come in an hour early or work through lunch & leave an hour or two early... No problem. Hell, I can work 12hrs on a Tuesday & a half day on Friday. You get the picture.

Look for it man. Your perfect career is out there somewhere just waiting for you. Don't be afraid to go find it!
