    Default Subsonic Published Data

On all of the bullet and powder books and websites, the subsonic data always lists just MAX load data (or occasionally just MIN data). If I'm picking load data that only shows a MAX, how do I know how much can I safely back off of that?

I want to load 300 BLK subsonic. Right now, what I'm looking at is the Hodgdon website reload data. I'm going to load a 220 gr (have both Berry's and Sierra bullets) with H110 powder. This is what the data shows:
    Hodgdon H110 .308" 2.260" COL MAX - 9.2 grs. 1,046 fps 28,100 PSI

Do I just back it off 10% and start at 8.3 grs?

I've not loaded for subsonic before.

For subs start high and work down. When you get low check the barrel after each shot to be 100% sure the bullet left the barrel.

That 1K fps is barely above subsonic. You should try that load suppressed. You might be surprised at the decibel reduction.

I wasn't thinking about it from a goal of reducing the speed. I just have always avoided loading max loads from a safety perspective (I'm over cautious when it comes to reloading - I don't have a nice face, but filling it with shrapnel is not on my bucket list). I was wondering about it more from that perspective.

Current load data is approx .5gr (min) below, IMO, actual max. Based on same mfg data books going back 2-3 books. I run the suggested data from the book & their online site without issue.
Like Hoser suggested, start at the data weight and work down.
