Default 6.5 Creedmoor/300 BLK reloading, powder question

    Greetings,

I am beginning to reload ammo for 6.5 Creedmoor and 300 BLK.

    I am shooting RPR Gen2 24" for 6.5 cr
    &
    Sig MCX Gen2 16" for 300 BLK

Currently going to reload 147gr ELD-M for 6.5
    Planning on using Hogdon H4350
    &
    110gr V-MAX for super / 208gr ELD for sub 300BLK
    Ordered Accurate 1680 for both

I spoke with Colorado Class 3 who suggested I sign up for this forum to seek other reloaders who might have some Hogdon H4350 stockpiled and might be willing to sell some while I wait for my back order to come in.

I understand that I cannot see or post in the trading post section till I am 30 days a member.

Who all here is in Colorado reloading for 6.5 Creedmoor?
    What bullet/powder are you using?

    Thanks!

H4350 is a very hot commodity right now and has been unavailable for quite some time. I believe it may start to show up soon, but who knows. IMR 4350 or Induron powders could be used if H4350 cannot be found.

For bullets, buy a 100 of several different types the 147 ELDM may or may not shoot. Try 140 hybrids, 142 matchkings, 140 ELDM, 130 AR Hybrid, 140 RDF Nosler, etc. Your rifle will like one better than another.

I would reach out to Fred at Bison Tactical in Boulder, he may have some H4350, if not he will have some powders and bullets for sale.
If your post count is higher than your round count, you are a troll.

    Thanks for the info!

I have fired 100+ 147gr ELD-M factory ammo and my gun loves it, 140s work very well too.

I have yet to find a 6.5 of any flavor that did not like the Sierra 142. H4350 and H4831SC are the winners.

For the 300 Whisper 1680, N110, H110 and LilGun are good choices.

I gave up on 4350 and now use RL-17. Its been much easier to acquire, and shoots just as accurately. Its more temp sensitive than 4350 however.

IMR 4350 is almost everywhere, I'm very happy with it.

Temp from Ammo ambient/direct sunlight or from barrel temp if rapid firing ?
What is the nominal temperature window ?

    More from ambient temp.

Outside accuracy, if you load to max side you "may run the risk" of other issues. Depending what one is shooting it out of.

There's lots of reading material on the web and reloading books to answer most of your questions. What works for one loader doesn't always work for another. AND one's max load should not be taken as gospel for everyone else to try.

I start at mid load data, usually keep it .5gr under max

You will have good luck with your 300 blk loads, I settled on exactly what you specified and they are accurate and reliable.

The 6.5 on the other hand, what a pain in the ass. Not reloading, it almost seems like anything you slap together is sub MOA, but finding components, and then finding more of the same component is starting to get to me. I really hope that some other wonder caliber comes along here soon because it is a crap shoot what you will find in stock anywhere. I went to three different places looking for ELD M today and they were all out. There were some of the 120's and some hunting bullets but anything match is nowhere up north. Also just an FYI, nosler just came out with a low drag bullet (RDF) to compete with the ELD. I have not tried it but the initial reviews are pretty good. Price-wise they are on par with the Sierra and Berger offerings.

With that said, 4831 and 4831SC are great, and I have been very impressed with their performance. Stable and accurate. I would go with the SC, it is a small cut grain version of the same powder and it meters way better. But the regular 4831 has been fantastic in my rifle.
