Question for you older guys

Having a toddler of my own now, I'm getting some taste of modern day Sesame Street. Which made my wife and I recall our youth.


My question is....was everyone either on cocaine or LSD in the late 70s?






It seemed weird as a kid. Seems much weirder now.

It's been almost 20 years since I've seen Sesame Street, when my kids were still little. I remeber enjoying Sesame Street when I was a kid, but as a parent of young kids it did seem very weird to me - especially hippie-ish. I've got a 2 1/2 yo grandson (and a granddauter due TOMORROW) but my daughter and SIL aren't into letting him watch Sesame Street; just too wierd for them I suppose.

My grandson is SMART (way smarter than I ever was) and watches Nick Jr. He absorbs things from those shows that surprises me and it's helped him learn things that I wouldn't expect until he was 8 yo. Entertaining yet educational shows there.

Not everyone was but a significant portion of the "creative" types were tuning out and turning on. For all their supposed educational reputation, I found "Fat Albert" and "Schoolhouse Rock" much better than "Sesame Street" or "The Electric Company".

Fat Albert was OK, but I don't know about Bill Cosby and that magic pen.

There's a reason he was named Dumb Donald. There probably WAS a kid who did that kind of thing in Cosby's neighborhood "gang".

Fat Albert was OK, but I don't know about Bill Cosby and that magic pen.

The revelations about Cosby are sad (and I think somewhat of a payback for his disagreements with Obama's methodologies) but they don't take away from the goodness in the Fat Albert show. There were a lot of good lessons for kids in that show, only thinly disguised as entertainment but it didn't matter because he wasn't being preachy while he was teaching life lessons.
