I rolled into a small Oregon costal town with the family rental car and needed gas. I got out, did my thing, and was pumping gas when the attendant came running out all apoplectic. It has to be about the stupidest law on the books anywhere.

Same thing happened to me the first time I tried to refill a rental car in NJ. Good thing they don't let them have guns there.

I'm in Colorado where we are forced to pump our own gas. Because I'm worried about my children being left in the car while I stand outside of it in my skirt, I just pay the transients to pump it for me. This way we're all safe and the transients are distracted from bothering those who are pumping their own gas.

I grew up in New Jersey. Now that I have lived out here for so long, when I go back to visit, I have gotten screamed at and the oddest looks when I went to fill up. I keep forgetting you're not allowed to - we go back only once a year, sometimes every other year.
