    Default .277 WLV anyone?

Anyone else out there play with the .277 WLV? I got interested in this as an AR15 compatible hunting cartridge. I got mine assembled over Christmas break and was able to get to the range recently with it but haven't had the opportunity to get it out in the field yet. Like the .300 BLK, it uses all standard AR15 parts except the barrel and muzzle device.

This is a .277 WLV loaded with a Hornady 110 gr. BTHP next to a 5.56x45.

My previous supervisor has one. I think he regrets it, as he isnt setup to reload and ammo is scarce. He liked the round though.

Yeah without reloading it's mostly a non-starter, as are most wildcats. There are 2 niche commercial loaders for the .277 WLV. Starline is now making new brass and Hornady will be offering it soon. Speculation is that Hornady may belong to sell loaded round in the not too distant future as well. That stats are pretty impressive for it, 95% of 6.8 SPC commercial ammunition.

I have one upper built, several hundred brass, bullets, etc but work has destroyed shooting time. If anyone's looking for dies I have an extra, unopened, NIB set,

I built one and found the recommended max loads at the time to be way hot. Like primers falling out after 1-2 loads. Not unusual for wildcats, but this one seemed more over hipped than others. Reasonable load development showed +200fps gap with 6.8spc 58k data. This was 2014 testing, not sure what the recommended loads looks like now. Tested 16" and 8.5" barrels.

Edit: Not trying to be negative on the chamber, just what I found. In a 16" format, I would still hunt with a 277WLV over a 300blk. It offers a flatter trajectory and more hunting projectiles for it's velocity window.

Interesting, that definitely hasn't been my experience however, I'm not loading to max. I don't typically have a need to load to max because the extra 75-200 FPS isn't a deciding factor for me. If 200 FPS will make or break my shot I feel like I'm using the wrong cartridge for the job. I've been getting >2400 FPS with 110 Hornady HPBT without pressure signs out of an 18" barrel which feels good for what I need. I think 300 BLK is still probably a better option with a 8.5" barrel.
