Default What is the collective thought on Century WASR 10 rifles?

I’ve read the PSA on Century’s US made AKs, but I don’t know much about other AK “brands” these days. I see the $1,000+ ones online, but those seem a bit excessive for my needs (which are reliability and 3-4 MOA accuracy). Please let me know your thoughts on the $600-700 Century-imported WASRs, thanks!

The two Century GP1975's that I had never missed a lick. I've always had issues with certain mags not fitting but other than that, they are great. My PAPM92 feels no different than the Century's. Always check for canted sights.

The WASR is a fine AK. Look up AK Operators Union on YouTube and watch his WASR vids. They will be a bit rougher in finish than an Arsenal but will still run. AKs will come with varying degrees of canted barrel components and as long as it sights in it will be considered ok. Be sure to look over the rifle and verify that things are straight before buying. If buying online use Atlantic Firearms as they do a cursory inspection for things like canted sights/barrel components on their AKs before shipping them out as well as they have a pretty good reputation for customer service in regards to returns and so on.

WASR's are good, and are about the only decent priced import anymore. But at $700...that's high compared to what they were selling for just 3 years ago.
Most AK shooters prefer imports over the american builds. However, keep in mind that even the imports are "fixed" to have enough 922r compliant parts, so they are still considered manufactured by Century.

If you're looking for a WASR, keep your eyes open for the AK63DS as well. It's a Hungarian build and every bit as good as a WASR. Also be open to the N-PAP which is a Yugoslavian build. Those seem to be the only ones left being imported still as stock of the other flavors of AK's has dried up.

Current and recent WASRs are better than they used to be. They've got a 20-year import history, and the earlier ones were notorious for sloppily-enlarged magwells and canted sight and gas blocks. The magwells could be fixed, and the cant didn't affect function, just aesthetics.

I picked up mine from a LGS for $429.... 3-4 years ago. I really hope AK's get down to AR pricing.

This is funny for people that remember when you could buy 3 AKs for one AR.

3? Shotgun news ran a front page ad back in 84-65 pushing Polytec Milled receiver AK's for $250 each. $200 if you purchased 3 or more. They'd throw in a case of norinco copper washed steel case for another $75.

Thanks for the input! Looks like canted sights is the big inspection issue, in addition to the normal "walk around"

I'd also check mag fitament. Between the two I had, one would accept double stack mags with ease, the other took a little filing to make it fit better.
