So Florida just passed a gun control bill.

Bump stocks
Crank fire devices
Binary triggers
3 gun triggers (Geissele and LaRue, among others, makes a wide variety)
Lightweight bolt carrier groups
Buffer springs and different buffer weights
Gas system length
Adjustable Gas blocks

TRANSFERABLE / REGISTERED Lightening Link (the host remains semi, the LL is the MG)
TRANSFERABLE / REGISTERED DIAS (the host remains semi, the RDIAS is the MG)

TRANSFERABLE / REGISTERED HK sears and trigger packs (the host remains semi, the sear or pack is the MG)

TRANSFERABLE / REGISTERED FNC sears (the host remains semi, the sear is the MG)

This makes every competition shooter, and modder of an AR a criminal. Absolutely insane.

Also it appears to criminalize ownership of NFA Class 3 weapons regardless of ATF Approval.


Age to purchase is raised from 18 to 21.

The only silver lining to all of this is that people are realizing there will soon be no difference between states when it comes to gun rights. Gone are the days of "just move." We will have to fight together at the Fed level or give up. There's no way we can hold all 57 states when they are increasing gun control in the face of decreasing crime, violence, and even school safety.

I believe our fight here in CO discouraged further infringements, for now. I have no doubt they are plotting. Constantly. But we stopped them. When certain people ran from NY, it encouraged them. That becomes a precedent that is used in other states.

If you look at the language you will see CA and NY in a lot of this. Particularly in the sections on how LE can seize guns before a person is even tried with any crimes. Keep in mind "involuntary institutionalization" has and is a tool the courts have at their disposal. But that wasn't enough because you can't effectively disarm people using that method (due process).

I did two years in Jacksonville. FL overall is red. Very red and very independent. Like "shit happens in the swamps that you don't want to know about" in some parts. The folks there are not organized and the Soros activists at the state house had them beat. FL is a wake up call!

And yes, GOPers once again out themselves as EnemyLite™. Just because we can win elections doesn't mean our rights are safe.

Sucks for FLA, but a silver lining here is that this could outright prove the "unintended consequences/slippery slope" argument that many on the gun rights side have been accused of blowing out of proportion and spreading FUD (vis a vis a bumpstock ban banning target triggers).

Nowhere in the bill does it call out most of these items.

790.222 Bump-fire stocks prohibited.—A person may not import into this state or transfer, distribute, sell, keep for sale, offer for sale, possess, or give to another person a bump fire stock. A person who violates this section commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. As used in this section, the term “bump fire stock” means a conversion kit, a tool, an accessory, or a device used to alter the rate of fire of a firearm to mimic automatic weapon fire or which is used to increase the rate of fire to a faster rate than is possible for a person to fire such semiautomatic firearm unassisted by a kit, a tool, an accessory, or a device.

The majority of the devices that the author listed DO NOT "mimic automatic weapon fire".

Competition shooters and AR builders will be just fine.

NFA will be a different battle, but we'll see how that goes.

That will be up to a judge to decide. If someone pulled out a binary trigger and shows how it drops in and replaces a factory trigger, a judge might think that's "a kit." Then they show a video of how it works. Independent actuations of the trigger get discarded because the increased rate of fire is obvious.

I don't see how buffers/springs could be an issue unless some ignorant "expert" gets in front of a judge and says those things increase the firing rate. (confusing cycle rate vs fire rate).

Core issue is... There is no fixed rate of fire on a semi-automatic firearm. Thus no objective increasing or decreasing. Creating subjective limitations on rate of fire could be a slippery slope. How fast is too fast? Once we accept this, is semi-auto too fast?

True, but it's not quite as dramatic as the article and the OP make it out to be.

Since bump stocks and binary triggers have become the public target of this round of "gunz are bad, rah, rah, rah", they are likely going to end up going away as they likely have in FL with this law. I don't like it. I don't agree with it, as I don't agree with any infringement of the 2A, but the current "we have to do something to make "dangerous guns" harder to get" mentality being espoused by too many people (many gun owners as well) is going to end with them going away.

I think once they get guns out of the way they go after the fundamental right to self-defense and the natural right to live (for some people). Yes, I think they are that evil. I think if you look at the socials you quickly understand that they believe it's their world and some people don't belong in it. This is far less about distributed random crime (picking winners/losers) and far more about building a progressive utopia IMHO.

Guns are just the tools of resistance to violence. They are preparing the battlespace.

All we're doing is negotiating how we get there.
