I took the 44 mag to the range today and had an issue with factory HSM ammo. First time for me, first 4 rounds went boom and the last round went pew, and not like a cool pew pew.

That sucks, HSM dosent have the best reputation.
Don't be stupid!!!!!
Squibs suck.
Glad you caught it.
Is that the stuff that comes in the blaze orange boxes?
It is.
I ran 5 rounds of .50BMG from them. The spread of impact was horrendous, and there were noticeable differences (recoil and sound) within the string of 5 shots.
I pulled down the remaining 5 rounds, and while none were squibs, the spread in powder charges was ~180gr to 220gr. When Hodgdon says max loads (H50BMG and 655 tips, M33 Ball equivalent rounds) are 248gr, having a swing of 40gr is noticeable.
They got reloaded properly, and fired just fine.
I don't trust HSM ammo for any caliber. We had a long conversation on the phone, and they were nice and offered a refund, but that doesn't change the facts of shooting .50BMG that is potentially very flawed.

The HSM i had was hit or miss, enough of it i avoid their product. Their 38 spl was horrible.

I used to buy HSM 357 mag when I shopped at the nearby Jax before the mag bill. Once that passed and Jax "went stupid", I stopped shopping there and didn't buy HSM anymore. However, I do recall the poor accuracy and inconsistent results. With much better ammo prices these days you can shoot some great stuff pretty reasonably.

They've gone even more stupid, if there's such a thing. Calling around for one of those ruger PC 9 takedowns. Guy tells me Sorry we're not carrying any semi autos that look like.................. I said are you serious? Umm yeah don't know why they look harmless to me. But i just work here.
