School shooting victim 'brain dead,' life support ending
Sad stuff. I was hoping that both kids that were shot would pull through.GREAT MILLS, Md. (AP) — A teenage girl who was shot when a classmate opened fire inside their Maryland high school is brain dead and is being removed from life support, her mother said Thursday
Melissa Willey told news reporters Thursday night that her daughter, 16-year-old Jaelynn Willey has "no life left in her." She said Jaelynn would be removed from life support during the evening.

Appears the kid got his fathers gun and used it.
Maryland also has laws on this. Father needs to face negligence charges.

lol.
I'm gonna hold fast on this one. Had the dad locked the gun up, this wouldn't have happened.
But the buck stops with the Dad. NRA, gun makers, legislators, etc aren't responsible.
Like it or not, agree with it or not, the fact is the Dad broke Maryland law and should be held accountable.

The state has laws on it and it's incumbent upon the state to make sure its citizens don't break the law. The state should face negligence and homicide charges.
See what I did there?

It is terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hanged. - The Cleveland Press, March 1, 1921, GK Chesterton

From your second link:It was not clear how the teenager, who lived in Lexington Park, Maryland, got hold of his father's weapon or what make or caliber it is.
Hold fast all you want. Unless you have some knowledge of fact that you haven't shared with us, there is a slight possibility that Pops has zero culpability.Maryland law provides that a person “may not store or leave a loaded firearm in a location where the person knew or should have known that an unsupervised child would gain access to the firearm.”1 This section does not apply if:
The child’s access is supervised by an individual age 18 or older;
The child’s access was obtained as a result of unlawful entry;
The firearm is in the possession or control of a law enforcement officer while the officer is engaged in official duties; or
The child has a certificate of firearm and hunter safety.2
State administrative regulations may impose storage requirements in certain locations.
But, hey, hang him anyway.
Who says the firearm was loaded?
