Leupold VX-1 for a Marlin 45-70?

I'm considering a Leupold VX-1 2-7x33mm scope for a Marlin 1895 45-70 for hunting elk and deer this season. About $180.

Good choice? I am not optics guru, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Check out the Marlin Owners Forum, there are plenty of suggestions there. Most seem to suggest a 1.5-4 or a 2-7. Leupold and Vortex come up often as suggested options. Also check out the Skinner sights if you have not already. I have two 45-70 Marlins, one scoped and one with Skinners and I prefer the Skinners sights by a long ways.
