Good on you for that response!!! It's a sound moral argument but it will fall on deaf ears. You and your teacher have different values.

NHS is failing in the UK, lets "pensioners" die in hospital hallways (don't have enough rooms). Folks have to buy private insurance to supplement the public value they are supposed to be getting. Canada has their wait lists created by the "brain drain" which killed supply/innovation. Europe traditionally has homogeneous populations which is the foundation of these systems. That is now being challenged by the Islamification. As Euro leaders are forced to pick winners and losers this will only get more interesting. Thus the push to normalize euthanasia and extend to high cost children.

The punch line is that the US subsidizes European healthcare. We pay R&D costs. Euro nations delay implementation until costs premiums have decreased and implement with government mandated costs.

We forgave their WWII debts and have been paying for their defense ever since. The Cold War was fought and won by US taxpayers. All that spending that didn't have to go to defense went to social programs. (thread derail: r/K Selection)

Sure, let's go full socialist like Europe! Who will subsidize their costs? Where will Canadians go who don't want to die on wait lists? What happens the first time a special-hierarchy-identity-snowflake is rationed? And the first time someone who paid taxes for 45 years is told to just go home and die because she is no longer a producer and too expensive?

Sounds good to me, if your teacher is a true socialist your gonna make his head explode with all that logic and common sense.

Anyone who wants to know how awesome healthcare is in Europe can simply check out the teeth on those people.

That’s pretty much what my entire essay would say.

Good paper, you won’t fail, but you aren’t going to get as high of a grade as those who just play along and agree with the insane logic.
In the end, neither of you will change each other’s minds, he has seen this before and will again. All that really matters is you get through the class towards your final goal.

I get so tired of being compared to somewhere else. The US is a damn big place with huge variations from one place to another. "Hybrids/Electric cars work great in Japan!" Oh, that tiny country that has bullet trains from one end to the other? "Well, everything is wonderful in Europe." Oh, when you can drive through multiple European countries in a days drive, does it really compare? Visiting Europe and living there with their high taxes and crappy socialized healthcare, you probably won't feel the same way.

The US is a unique experiment based on the freedom of people to make their own destiny. Socialism ultimately fails everywhere. If you just want to be a taker and latch onto the teat of socialism, there are plenty of places you can go. Stop trying to change US.

My wife was born in Canada and had a Godmother that was elderly. She had cancer. They just wait listed her until she was dead. It happens and don't let anyone tell you it doesn't.

I had never thought about the differences in European EMS and EMS in the USA. I found this article interesting and it points out how the difference is caused more by the broader health care systems that exist in each country.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3191661/

Europe apparently has more of a "stay and stabilize" while the USA has more of a "stabilize and transport" model. European EMS sends Emergency Physicians to patients to do as much as they can on scene while the USA sends paramedics to get the patient enroute to a trauma center. Obviously there are benefits and drawbacks to either system. The other interesting thing is the acknowledgement in the article that EMS has existed longer in the USA than in Europe. Medivac was pioneered in the USA and most air ambulance services both in the USA and Europe are run by private companies. Having grown up in Maryland, I find that interesting because all medivac in the state is run by the Maryland State Police and most patients are taken to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

Interesting topic. Get a passing grade and move along. You already know that what you learn in a month on the street is far more important than what they give you in a classroom.

in the scandinavian countries where socialism partially works, families have lived in the same house for 500 years and they tend their society like a garden.

in the US we treat our society like a rape victim whose ordeal isn’t over because we haven’t had our go yet. socialism would never work here.

that said, it doesn’t matter. robots and AI are coming. their reduction of the workforce by 80% will result in the utter destruction of our economies and nations. and socialism won’t fix it. oddly, communism and a giant heap of genocide will probably end up the right answer in the long run. just not a very moral one.

person costs $50k a year to employ. robot costs $12k and $400 in maintenance a year. it works 24/7. game over. will the product be 4 times cheaper? yup. will a person with no job who will never have a job care? no.
