Classical antiquity, actually.
They could couch it in terms of "indigenous peoples" appreciation month or something, too.

It is terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hanged. - The Cleveland Press, March 1, 1921, GK Chesterton
Everyone here who is doubting the lethality of those rocks should remember the number of illegal aliens in our public school system. Those kids and Palestinian kids can be pretty handy with a rock.
I love the idea of teaching kids that they need to be able to defend themselves. I doubt this will be the lesson here though.
I was reading an article the other day where they were discussing how many kids these days can't even throw stuff - like anything. A football, baseball, frisbee, etc. Rocks? Please...no video games have you throwing rocks so it's totally foreign.
(here comes a link to a video game where you throw rocks)
Maybe you can get rock throwing practice if you still have a Nintendo Wii.

School that gives students rocks to repel active shooter to add armed security
A Pennsylvania school district that drew media attention and public mockery for its plan to arm students with rocks in case of an active shooter situation has arranged to add armed security for its buildings.Helsel says the influx of attention came from “social media posts that took comments out of context and misrepresented our actual planned responses to armed intruders (particularly with the planned use of stones).”

While I think rocks are woefully inadequate for defense, it is a step in the right direction. The very least that can be learned is that projectiles are useful for self-defense. Eventually they may understand the need for a better projectile launcher like the one the shooter is using against them and thereby understand the need for a real gun. This may be as close as a school will ever get to teaching the importance of the 2A.

When the government came to take our guns, they knocked on the door. After our guns were gone, they never bothered knocking again - Holocaust Survivor
I'm all for teaching kids that they don't have to be victims, that active defense is possible. Once they got to practicing and realized how ineffective the rocks were, they'd naturally get around to questioning some of the other liberal pap they're being spoon-fed. In the meantime, send that principal to California where he can rot with the other idiots.
