F-150 is out for 2018 model year, Chevy 1500 out next model year. I'm looking forward to seeing them. Ford has released their numbers and of course the Ram has been out for a while. Chevy hasn't released numbers yet but they say it will outperform the F-150:

Vitals: 2018 Ram EcoDiesel vs. 2018 Ford F-150
    Truck: 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel
    Engine: 3.0L V-6 EcoDiesel 3.0L V-6 PowerStroke
    Power @ RPM: 240 @ 3600 250 @ 3250
    Torque @ RPM 420 @ 2000 440 @ 1750
    Fuel Economy (CITY / HWY): 21 / 29 TBD / 30
We should know more about the 2019 Silverado diesel and the new Duramax I-6 engine over the next several weeks.

I can’t help but not like the Canyon/Colorado platform. In my mind it’s basically the updated S-10 platform which I always thought were kind of crappy little trucks.

While I likely wouldn’t transition back to a smaller truck, if Toyota ever decides to put a small diesel in their little Tacoma I would definitely entertain a test drive at least.

It's definitely not an updated S-10. And most head to head reviews I've seen place it ahead of the Tacoma in pretty much every category. But, thats why they make different trucks...everyone has differing likes and dislikes.

"What I would buy if they came out with one is in between the Colorado and the Silverado 2500/3500. Just give me a 1500 that can tow 12-14k with a Diesel engine and 25-30mpg and I’d buy that all day long."

"BTW...Chevy is coming out with a Silverado 1500 with a 3.0L diesel (I think that's the size) for the 2019 model year. Performance and mileage are rumored to be better than the Colorado/Canyon. Ford's F-150 diesel is out later this year."

THESE! This is exactly what I'm looking for. Now, can I get it for under $50k ?!? Yeah, I know, I'm a dreamer.......

It's interesting GM is going inline-6, Ford, Dodge are going v-6.

I wonder if there's an performance advantage of one configuration vs. the other.

You'll be able to get one for well under $50k. I bought a new, 2014 2500HD crew cab with Duramax, LS package (basically a work truck with power windows, mirrors and a few other niceties and rubber floor cover) for just a shade over $36k. It stickered at $49k-ish. You have to catch all the rebates and discounts just right. I got over $5k off alone with a military discount (occasionally they offer it to all active members and vets). Then there's loyalty discounts, USAA discounts, Costco discounts...all kinds of damn discounts. Plus rebates and other cash back offers. Also look for something that's been on the lot a while...course that'll be hard with a 2019 1500 diesel.

Most people seem happy with their EcoDiesels on the facebook groups. Few stories of serious mechanical issues, but many more enjoying them than not.

Other than Emissions issues (DEF), mine has been great and fun to drive in the wife's Grand Cherokee. MPG has fallen off this winter with the heavier tires I put on it. Mostly city is 19mpg. (with my foot in it a lot!) Summer trip with the family we were right at 28mpg with four people and some luggage.

I like the Colorado and the small duramax, It would be a great replacement for my Honda car someday. I'm waiting to see what Chevy has in the half ton coming out soon.

Sometimes assholes push people down stairs.
That doesn't mean "stairs are bad" nor does it make someone who pushes someone down the stairs any less of an asshole.

I know you're looking at the baby duramax, but when I ask users on here about a full size truck, they pointed me towards a Nissan Titan. It's more like a 5/8ths truck.... big interior, but not quite a massive hauler. After reason and doing some digging, I considered a 2017, almost fully loaded, they go for about $40,000. But just like all new designs, it will have its bugs and quirks, so get the warranty.

    hope that helps
