Snopes used to be a good site. It's still pretty good for checking some urban myth type stuff but very unreliable on anything political or controversial because there's a very definite leftward bias. In several cases they appeared to bend over backwards to "verify" or "bust" questions/myths in ways that were favorable to Obama or Clinton. Favorable until you actually dug into the source material yourself or read between the lines of what they were saying and not saying but of course, how many people do that? They just go to the big "TRUE" or "FALSE" statement and let that do the thinking for them.

I don't use Snopes anymore except like Wikipedia, as a starting point for real research.
