    Default Ohio Shooting

This came across my news feed this morning...

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry...b009869bfa07fc

It says a mother accidentally shot and killed her 2 year old daughter.

    Horrible.

    But this is in there.

“The safety was on when I dropped the gun and the bullet shot her."

What kind of gun will do this? I'm guessing it's a semi-auto since it has a safety. They were in an Econolodge motel so I am assuming the floor was carpeted.

I am wondering what kind of gun will self discharge when dropped with the safety engaged. I would like to know so I can avoid that brand and model.

$10 says when the investigation is complete, the safety was not on and the gun was not dropped. 9 times out of 10 after an negligent discharge where people claim "I dropped it and it went off" they're lying to cover the fact that they weren't obeying the 4 rules and their booger hook was on the bang switch when it shouldn't have been.

This + attempting to make murder seem like an "accident".

Could have easily been a dropped gun that someone attempted to catch. That's a bigger problem than letting the gun hit the ground...unless it's a SIG.

At least it wasn't the gun's fault since "the bullet shot her".

And that's me being a smart ass, not quoting known fact.

Recently was watching one of those forensic-file type shows, Dr. G Medical Examiner. A man and his new bride were out hunting. She was behind him, with the rifle slung over her shoulder.
He knelt down, asked her to hand him the rifle. She unslings it from her shoulder, sliding it forward, the rifle butt hits the ground, rifle fires round into her abdomen killing her. Guy claims safety was on.

The investigation showed that they could not get the rifle to fire with the safety on. Drop test, banging on rifle, etc..
Until they tried it with the rifle upside down, as if you were un-slinging the rifle and moving it forward as the guy originally claimed. Weird.

    Very strange.
