UPDATE: At least nine people were killed and 16 injured in Toronto when a van drove into pedestrians on a busy street, officials say

EARLIER: The driver of a white van collided with multiple pedestrians on a busy street north of downtown Toronto on Monday, leaving numerous people injured along a trail of destruction stretching up to a mile, officials said.

Canada's Minister of Public Safety Ralph Goodale said there are some casualties from the collisions, but didn't offer details.

The suspected driver was in custody and the van has been located, Toronto Police media representative Gary Long said.

The absence of the driver's name has me suspicious.

This guy was clearly trying to suicide by cop. Look at how he keeps pointing a gun at the cops, then putting it down and raising it again. I wonder what about it made them not shoot (heck, the one officer's right in the middle of the street with no real cover, which is the weirdest thing about it to me).

CBC News has confirmed that Alek Minassian, a 25-year-old Richmond Hill man, is the alleged driver in the attack. His LinkedIn profile identifies him as a student at Seneca College.

Armenian? Also seems to be a popular surname in Iran. At least that's what the Interwebs says.
