    Default Shockwave Slug Hunting

I would say that the Shockwave and Tac14 fall under ‘handgun’ classification in CO hunting law. It’s a grey area...Thoughts?
If green-lighted, my Shockwave is on elk duty this year.

Here is an example of the Shockwave doing just fine taking Canadian deer with buck.

With truball penetrators, or reduced velocity foster slug, I KNOW that there is plenty of power to do the job (both have +20” of penetration and plenty of energy)

I wouldn’t say it’s a gray area. I don’t think it would fall under the category of “handgun” since it isn’t a handgun by definition.

Since most hunting regulations apply to handguns, rifles, or shotguns (none of which apply to the Shockwave) I’m guessing it would be a no-go.

Also, of all of the firearms I’d consider hunting with, something like the Shockwave would be way down at the bottom of the list.

I’d say just above pointy stick. Every year I get an elk, I make it more challenging with the firearm. Still WAY more humane than archery or 10mm...

    My interpretation went like this:

It’s not a pistol, but it is a handgun as much as any of the +14” barreled rifle caliber* single shot ‘hunting pistols’ are.

Meets every other requirement of handgun listed in any Colorado hunting publication.

Forgive some of my ignorance on the subject, but to be considered a handgun doesn’t rifling factor in somehow? Since the Shockwave has a smooth bore I wasn’t sure.

Also, the whole legality of the Shockwave is pretty much that it isn’t a handgun or a shotgun. Trying to claim it to be a handgun would go against its whole existence in the first place.

I’m not sure about the rifling- but I could easily purchase a rifled barrel for it.

Also, ‘handgun’ was always a weird term used in CO law, where ‘pistol’ is what I see in fed law. Most people see them as the same. I disagree for the purpose of me being able to do what I want.

Please correct me if I’m wrong here. I asked because I want to know more.

A smooth bore is one of the key features that keeps it in the firearm grey area. A rifled barrel and it becomes a different class and most likely that's AOW

If you want another path to look down to justify this, look at the caliber(s) you can use. Otherwise just bring a 590 18.5"

    Gotcha. Thank you!
Guess I’ll find another oddball elk buster.

Quit being a pansy and get an elk with a bow during rifle season.
