Just as a second thought, why not just buy a second 15-22 barrel and have the work done on it and just swap it in when done instead of turning your whole rifle over to the smith? I don't own a 15-22 so I am ASSUMING that the barrel is held in with a nut similar to a standard AR config.
There are some outstanding photos of SBR'd 15-22's with suppressors on the net, but that would cost another stamp. Depending on what this custom work costs, that may be a viable alternative or not.
Keep in mind you will have to clean it also, a sealed can is a no-no for a 22.
